Amanda Blanc – Early Years

Amanda Blanc was born in 1968 and grew up in an average working-class family in East London, where she learned the values of hard work and determination. When Amanda was 16, she joined a local insurance broker as an office junior. Her talent and intelligence were evident from the outset, as she quickly advanced in her role, eventually earning a place on the prestigious Chartered Insurance Institute program. Amanda’s career took off when she was brought into a progressive division of Towergate, one of the UK’s largest independently owned insurance brokers. In 2004 she was appointed as their Managing Director and by 2006 had become CEO.


One of Amanda’s most significant achievements was her work at AXA Insurance Limited, where she served as Group CEO for the UK & Ireland. Amanda led the company through a challenging period, transforming AXA into a market leader, with a renewed focus on customer service. Her success in this position led to her appointment as the CEO of Bupa, one of the world’s leading health and wellness companies. During her tenure at Bupa, Amanda cemented the company’s position as a global health and wellness leader through focusing on digitalization, innovation, and a patient-led and customer-centric approach.

Another significant accomplishment of Amanda’s was her appointment as the Chair of the Association of British Insurers in October 2018, a role that she held until April 2020. In this capacity, Amanda was able to help shape the insurance industry’s strategic direction in the UK and further afield. Her focus on providing high-quality services to customers, promoting diversity and inclusion within the industry, and advocating for an innovative and forward-thinking approach made a significant difference.
