Eleanor Roosevelt – American First Lady

Eleanor Roosevelt was an American First Lady. She did a lot to support women, too! Here are some fun facts that you may not know about her.

– “Eleanor” is only her middle name, her first name is “Anna”

– Her favorite thing to do was play field hockey, In fact she considered the happiest day of her life to be the day she made it onto her school’s team

– Teddy Roosevelt, who was president at the time and also her uncle, walked her down the aisle on her wedding day

– On several occasions, she coordinated women-only press conferences at the White House

– One time, she went flying with Amelia Earhart

– In Birmingham, Alabama, the Southern Conference for Human Welfare held it’s inaugural meeting. Eleanor, ignoring the segregation laws, sat next to an African-American associate she was asked to move, she asked for a ruler. Then, measured the distance between the two chairs. She moved her chair and sat directly in between the segregated seating areas
