Grace Hopper

Grace Hopper – Computer Scientist

Grace Hopper was an American Navy rear admiral and computer scientist. Here are some facts about this amazing woman!

  • She earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from Yale University
  • She also earned a degree from Vassar College which was the second college offering higher education for women at the time, following Elmira College. I live close to both colleges!
  • She has a Navy USS destroyer the “Hopper” named after her. Which I think is *really* cool, to say the least.
  • She was interested in mechanics from a young age.
  • She was involved with the making of UNIVAC. UNIVAC was the first electronic digital computer.
