Maya Angelou was an American poet. Here are some facts about her!

– Her real name is actually “Marguerite Ann”, but she was given the nickname “Maya”, by her brother

– In 1962, Maya moved to Ghana, and worked as an administrator for The University of Ghana

– She helped Malcolm X with an organization of his, The Organization of Afro-American Unity

– The day of her 40th birthday was also the day that Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, so instead of gifts for her birthday, she sent Ms. Coretta Scott King flowers.
