Smart Girl Stories
Nadia Anjuman

Nadia Anjuman – Afghan Poet

– When the Taliban took over her city in Afghanistan, she and other women from her community began attending a secret school/book club, The Golden Needle Sewing School. (They were not learning how to sew; they were being taught literature because the Taliban is against women learning how to read and write).

– When the Taliban was eventually driven out, she attended Herat University

– She soon became a poet and created beautiful poems that are still used by musicians nowadays

– Sadly, she passed away in 2005, but her story lives on and inspires the women of Afghanistan
