Sojourner Truth

Sojourner Truth was an American women’s rights activist. Here are some facts about her!

  • She was very tall at 6’0.
  • She was an abolitionist against slavery, as she was a slave herself.
  • She was born into slavery, escaped with her baby daughter, then she went to court to save her son from slavery and won. Which made her the first African American woman to win a case quite like that.
  • Her true name was Isabella Baumfree, but after becoming Christian she chose a new name. Sojourner is a settler of sorts. Obviously, truth comes from honesty and truth.
  • She became a preacher.
